Bible Reading Group Homework

1.    In what ways, in what arenas, are you seeking to be normal and average rather than extraordinary?

2.    Read or listen to 1 Samuel 8:4-20; 11:14-15. Discuss the reason the people gave for wanting a king and a military. Discuss also the reasons Samuel gave for not making a king.

3.    Read or listen to Psalm 138. How sure is God’s word? How effective is God’s name? Use some of the words of this Psalm in your answers one to another.

4.    Read or listen to 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1. Spend some time telling your group of your troubles this past week. Make sure everyone gets a chance to be heard about his or her troubles. Then spend some time listening to each other about how you see these troubles could turn into an exhibit of God’s grace to increase abounding thanksgiving and glory to God.

5.    Read or listen to Mark 3:20-35. At least two groups of people thought Jesus should do his work differently, his friends and family out of care for him, and the religious leaders out of accusation. How did Jesus impress on them the importance of following one’s own calling rather than letting others shape limit or shape one’s response to God?
