January 12, 2020, Lectionary

In Isaiah 42 "the servant" may be Israel, Christ, or the church. I'll claim the promise of something new from God that brings justice. Isaiah 42:1-9

The voice of the Lord is powerful and majestic. The psalmist lists many good things the voice of the Lord does. Breaking the cedars has to do with bringing down the arrogant (compare Isaiah 2:11-17). Psalm 29

The word they had to preach started with Jesus' baptism by John, at which time Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, and went about doing good. Acts 10:34-43

It was a baptism of repentance. People came there to confess sins. And Jesus came to be baptized. Pondering the mystery. Matthew 3:13-17

Thoughts about Listening

I wonder are my resolutions in line with former successes or are they too dramatic for starters? Isaiah 42:1-9

Have you ever pondered and marveled over how we readily learn to recognize voices? Psalm 29

Most of us have a story we love to tell of someone's rise to fame. Each story like that has its own starting place. Acts 10:34-43

Remember a moment when you felt very affirmed. Spend five minutes making the memory real in imagination. Live on that energy today. Matthew 3:13-17
