It's pretty hard to speak peaceably with someone while holding hatred in the heart for that person. Communication skills go deep. Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28

How we talk about and remember, or don't remember and don't talk about, our past shapes our future. Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45

Listening is difficult to keep in priority in the midst of cacophany of marketing, discontent, cruelty, and violence. Matthew 14:22-33

Bible Reading Group Homework

1.    How has sibling rivalry impacted your life? Discuss in your group. Expand to think of world siblings, nation siblings.

2.    Read or listen to Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28. This is a fun story to dramatize or draw. Discuss who is at fault for hurting the various people in this story. What would you advise this family to do differently?

3.    Read or listen to Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45. Include this in your drama or drawing to show how people told the story later.

4.    Read or listen to Romans 10:5-15. There are several parts to this: the nearness of Jesus, the way to be saved, salvation’s availability to everyone, and the need for preachers. Which part speaks most intensely to you right now? In what way?

5.    Read or listen to Matthew 14:22-33. Dramatize: How did the disciples feel at the beginning of the story. What came up to distract them? What caused them fear? Where was Jesus all this time? What did Peter do? Did Peter fail or succeed, and why? At what moment did the distraction stop? What did the people do then? What will you do, related to this story?
