1. At age nine, what kinds of things did you look forward to with happy anticipation? Tell and listen and discuss.
2. Read or listen to Revelation 16:12-16. Verse 15, showing Jesus’ coming to be soon but not yet, interrupts the sixth plague call to Armageddon, the battle of the great day of the Lord, Joel 1:15; 2:1, 11, 31; 3:14; (See also Amos 5:18-20; Obadiah 1:15; Zephaniah 1:7, 14; 14:1; Malachi 4:5).
3. Read or listen to Revelation 16:12-16. The kings of the east would be bringing deliverance. (See “east” in other contexts: Isaiah 41:2; Ezekiel 42:1-4; Daniel 11:44; Zechariah 14:4; Matthew 24:27; Revelation 7:2.)
4. Read or listen to Revelation 16:12-16 with Isaiah 8:19-20 (compare Leviticus 19:31; 20:6; Deuteronomy 11:9-14). Discuss why God has such a warning against seeking communication with the spirits of the dead. Re-tell the story of Saul in his adventure with evil spirits (1 Samuel 28; 1 Chronicles 10:13-14).
5. Read or listen to Revelation 16:12-16. Armageddon, literally “Mountain of Megiddo,” would bring to mind both a mountain and a valley. The mountain, Mt. Carmel, was the location of God’s showdown (1 Kings 18), the valley was a site of many battles (Deborah, Judges 5:19-20; Jehu, 2 Kings 9:22-27; Pharoah-Neco, 2 Kings 23:29-30). Imagine and discuss: What might an all-out war between evil spirits and God look like?
