1.    Have you known of a person, plant, or animal who died of a parasite? Discuss what kinds of things live by infesting and starving, overtaking, or outbursting their host. Cancer, worms, larvae, lice, technology hackers, social media trolls, etc. Discuss what humans usually do with those things and why.

2.    Read or listen to Revelation 14:9-11. Re-read the antecedent to verse 9 in Revelation 13:13-16, and its counterpart in Revelation 14:1-5. List and match the phrases that describe two opposite verbal pictures. Discuss and improve your lists.

3.    Read or listen to Revelation 14:9-11. Compare verse 10 with verse 8. What different things might the two cups represent?

4.    Read or listen to Revelation 14:9-11. List the phrases that are often used to picture righteous enjoyment in ongoing torture and torment of others. Now read Genesis 18:1-2, 20-33; 19:24-28, finding the “fire and brimstone (sulphur),” “the presence of the holy angels, and the presence of the Lamb,” and “smoke ascending” in the story of the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah. Then read Jude 1:7 and ponder whether those cities are still burning, as an example to us. Read Isaiah 63:9 and 2 Peter 3:9 to find out if God enjoys making trouble or death for anyone.

5.    Read or listen to Revelation 14:9-11. The Greek word translated “rest” is the same word as for “Sabbath.” Compare verses 6 and 9, noticing that those who worship the beast have no Sabbath, while those who worship the Creator do.
