There may be many times in my life when neither I nor any human is to blame for the bad that happens. Trying to place blame is not helpful. Job 1:1; 2:1-10

Incentives for pursuing integrity and authenticity: to be able to 1) see the loving-kindness of the Lord, 2) tell of God's wondrous works, and 3) stand on level ground. Psalm 26

What an astounding gift Jesus is to us! He's the word of God. He's the ruler of all. Yet I get to call on his name, rely on his friendship, and stay in his presence! Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:5-12

Jesus corrected misconceptions about the importance of marriage and of children, both to be respected, both commissioned in Eden. Mark 10:2-16

Thoughts about Listening

Stop looking for someone to blame. Many times, looking for someone to blame is a sidetrack from success. Stop. Job 1:1; 2:1-10

Integrity and authenticity enable so many other fine characteristics. Psalm 26

Is there someone whose friendship to you sometimes strikes you with awe, like, How could a person that rich, powerful, beautiful, smart, and well-intentioned be friends with me? Cultivate that friendship. Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:5-12

Whatever I choose to hold sacred determines my closest friendships. Mark 10:2-16

Bible Reading Group Study Guide

1.    Have you ever blamed someone for something and then found out that that person was not the one to blame? Tell and listen to how you and your friends would feel in a case like that.

2.    Read or listen to Job 1:1; 2:1-10. Explore the layers of irony here. Something bad is going to happen to the hero at the hands of a villain he never suspects, and decided in a conversation with the hero’s protector that was kept secret from the hero. Yet the reader is privy to it all. If this is somehow true of our universe and God, then Someone wants readers of the Bible to understand.

3.    Read or listen to Psalm 26. List and tell what incentives you find in this reading for pursuing integrity and authenticity.

4.    Read or listen to Hebrews 1:1-4; 2:5-12. Ponder the gift that Jesus is to humans. Pray together for deeper understanding of this gift in your group and in your life.

5.    Read or listen to Mark 10:2-16. What do you choose to consider beautiful, holy, sacred, or protected? Jesus protected marriage and children. Discuss why you think these are or are not sacred. What will you do today to follow Jesus’ lead in what you care about protecting?
