1.    Tell someone who will listen what your prayer life is like. How often? What for? Do you use the Bible? What about the promises?

2.    Read or listen to Daniel 9:1-3. When did this story take place? What was Daniel consulting prior to his prayer? Compare the time periods of Daniel 8:14 and 9:2. Which is longer? Which did Daniel understand? Compare 2 Chronicles 36:18-23.

3.    Read or listen to Daniel 9:4-19.  Notice the similarities between v. 4 and vv. 15-19. Notice also the similarities between vv. 5-6 and vv. 10-11. This leaves vv. 7-9 as the core of the prayer. Please notice the intertwining of the pronouns in these verses, God and Israel intertwined.

4.    Read or listen to Daniel 9:12-14. Daniel believed the disaster came on Jerusalem for a reason and that God was still in charge. What was the reason? And how did He know God was in charge?

5.    Read or listen to Daniel 9:4, 27. Covenant means promise. Whom did Daniel know to be a promise keeper? How do the curses of vv. 12-14 agree that God keeps promises? Would you be willing to pray confession in the plural? Would you be willing to quiz yourself about what part you may have had, and need to confess, in the troubles in our nation?

Finale: What means the most to you out of today’s reading of Daniel 9:1-19? What will you do about it now?
