1.    List together some ways in which life would be different if there were no sunlight on earth, let’s say, for two weeks.

2.    Read or listen to Revelation 16:8-11. Notice the mention of their sores. Review all that has happened since the sores first appeared: Sores because they had the mark. Blood in sea and rivers because they shed the blood of God’s people. No cleansing or drinking water. Now scorching sun to increase the drought, and then darkness. How do the people respond?

3.    Read or listen to Revelation 16:8-11. Consider the origins and prevalence of sun worship. Look up Deuteronomy 4:19; 17:3; 2 Kings 23:5; Jeremiah 8:2; Ezekiel 8:16; and online religious information on Egypt and Babylon. How might the fourth and fifth plagues be understandable consequences?

4.    Read or listen to Revelation 16:8-11. Compare Revelation 8:12-9:2, the fourth and fifth trumpets, affecting the sun but only partially. Read Revelation 9:20-21 and compare this reaction to that noted in Revelation 16:9, 11.

5.    Read or listen to Revelation 16:8-11. Compare and discuss Exodus 10:21-24. Scan the next few chapters in Exodus to learn what event followed this plague of darkness, and what preparations God’s people made in order to be safe.

Finale: What means the most to you out of today’s reading of Revelation 16:8-11? What will you do about it now?

**************
