Thoughts about Listening
I'm invited to imagine and picture what would life be like if there was no oppression, not the slightest bit, anywhere at all. Isaiah 9:1-4
Is it true that beautiful to one is ugliness to another? Or are there some things that arouse awe and wonder in everyone? Psalm 27:1, 4-9
Ponder how much does someone have to think, believe, or act like you to receive your respect and companionship. 1 Corinthians 1:10-18
What would it take to win your trust so much that you would leave your current job or business to join? Be the one who could win your trust. Matthew 4:12-23
Bible Reading Group Homework
1. Did you and your playmates as children ever indulge in injustice to one another. Ponder and discuss why.
2. Read or listen to Isaiah 9:1-4. List the names given here for the Messiah, and try to understand what those names might have meant for the readers then and for our reading now.
3. Read or listen to Psalm 27:1, 4-9. What is beautiful to you? Where do you see the beauty of the Lord? Compare your answers with others in your group.
4. Read or listen to 1 Corinthians 1:10-18. Ponder what it might mean to erase all boundaries and practice inclusive hospitality. Discuss how this does or doesn’t work with the advice of most motivational speakers to choose your friends wisely?
5. Read or listen to Matthew 4:12-23 and compare with John 1:29-42. According to Matthew, and then also according to John, what did Jesus do before inviting, “Follow Me”? Describe and discuss what the words, “repent” and “kingdom of heaven” mean to you or to other readers.
