He will come, first the messenger preaching preparation and then the Lord whom we seek. Who do you think is preaching preparation now days? Malachi 3:1-4

God has prepared the way that we might serve God without fear and be guided into ways of peace. Luke 1:68-79

Paul was sure that what God had begun in the believers God would finish. I claim that idea for myself because there are a lot of places where I can see I am unfinished and unpolished. Philippians 1:3-11

John's mission was to prepare the way for Jesus, and the metaphor of preparing a road for commerce, communication, and King's passage was appropriate. All obstacles must go. Luke 3:1-6

Thoughts about Listening

Sometimes it takes intentional thought and work to prepare oneself for listening. It's always worth it. Malachi 3:1-4

In some ways, gift listening can feel vulnerable, so I will examine the fears that keep me from listening well and find ways to surmount them. It's worth it. Luke 1:68-79

Saying thank you about something specific is a good way to start off a letter or a conversation. Philippians 1:3-11

Let's move out of the way anything that would hinder good listening. Luke 3:1-6

Bible Reading Group Study Guide

1.    As a child of seven, how often in a week’s time did you feel fear or threat? List some things of which you were afraid.

2.    Read or listen to Malachi 3:1-4. According to this reading, who is coming and what will they do?

3.    Read or listen to Luke 1:68-79. This reading is Zachariah’s prophecy at the birth of John. List and discuss some things that seem to be God’s intentions for the humans of this earth.

4.    Read or listen to Philippians 1:3-11. Discuss whether or not it is easy to take up the idea in verse 6 that God is in charge of the work in you. Pray together the prayer in verses 9-11.

5.    Read or listen to Luke 3:1-6. Discuss how closely each in your group has worked with the planning or construction of roads. Is highway construction a good or poor metaphor for getting the world ready for Jesus’ coming? In what ways does the metaphor fit or not fit? What are you willing to do today to get ready for Jesus’ coming?
