Though I'm known as if I was naked, I'm loved as if we shared blood, and I'm invited to come and receive help in all need. I wonder what would happen if I prayed more. Hebrews 4:12-16

Jesus looked at him and loved him, despite all his baggage that would eventually put a wall between him and Jesus. Mark 10:17-31

Thoughts about Listening

When someone is doing something I don't understand, it is right for me to ask for conversation with that person rather than creating slander about the situation. Job 23:1-9, 16-17

Draw pictures, by word or by paint, that can stand as metaphor for your sense of overwhelm. Then make some little change in the picture that stands for hope, add or subtract something, enlarge or reduce its size, frame it. . . Psalm 22:1-15

When I find myself saying, "This book/author knows me," I also find myself wanting to read the book again. Hebrews 4:12-16

Somehow we've got to get to where we can love and make love obvious despite disagreements! Mark 10:17-31

Bible Reading Group Study Guide

1.    Tell someone who will listen what you did last time you didn’t deserve what you got or didn’t get what you deserved.

2.    Read or listen to Job 23:1-9, 16-17. This is Job’s complaint, legitimate according to all the suffering he had. Pick out and discuss the phrases the show bits of hope.

3.    Read or listen to Psalm 22:1-15. Differentiate the phrases you could use in prayer for yourself from those you feel you couldn’t use. Discuss each and tell why you could or couldn’t use it in your prayers.

4.    Read or listen to Hebrews 4:12-16. Consider and tell of a time when you felt like a book or its author understood you and spoke specifically to you. Describe the feelings. Then remember and discuss how thoroughly Jesus understands you, and decide what this knowledge means for your prayers and Bible reading.

5.    Read or listen to Mark 10:17-31. The disciples were all worried about getting what they deserved. Name three things that were on Jesus mind instead. Go deep. How will you live according to the mind of Jesus today?
