After ten or so years of leadership, David was finally installed in a leadership position. 2 Samuel 5:1-10

Because this great God is loving, kind, and forever, contemplation of this God is a legacy I can pass to the next generation. Psalm 48

When I know I am weak, at that very moment I am strong, because Jesus' strength is made perfect in weakness. This is not the same idea as working hard to make my weaknesses into strengths. 2 Corinthians 12:2-10

I wonder how often Jesus marvels at my unbelief. I wonder when Jesus longs to do more for me and my churches, but I get distracted. Mark 6:1-13

Thoughts about Listening

Whenever I ask myself, From whom can I ask leadership or mentoring today? I consider their trajectories and track records. 2 Samuel 5:1-10

I think about my legacy, precisely what it is that I want to tell the next generation and how I will get them to hear it. Psalm 48

Admitting my weaknesses and drawing others around me who are strong in those areas is a wise plan. 2 Corinthians 12:2-10

A certain level of trust is imperative for communication to work at all. The more mutual trust there is, the more enjoyable and fruitful the conversation. Mark 6:1-13

Bible Reading Group Homework

1.    Tell about a time you wanted to do something but found most ways blocked.

2.    Read or listen to 2 Samuel 5:1-10. Scan the chapters before this one as well as the last half of the book before this one. What had David been doing up until this time? What was the change now?

3.    Read or listen to Psalm 48. Consider what would you like to pass on to your children about your God? How will you shape and package the legacy?

4.    Read or listen to 2 Corinthians 12:2-10. Verses 9-10 give one of my favorite Pauline sayings. Take a few moments for meditation, to think of all the ways you are weak, and then give them all to God for His grace to show through them.

5.    Read or listen to Mark 6:1-13. What had the disciples been through? What had they not yet experienced? What were they not to take with them? What were they told to take with them? What did they preach? Discuss in your group and tell how your story matches or doesn’t match this one.

***************
