Did God reprove Sarah for laughing, or only for lying about it? Was God perhaps seeking to give her own experience room for voice? Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7

Hope comes through Jesus, through troubles, and through the love of God. This love is brought by the Holy Spirit and shown in Jesus' death. Romans 5:1-8

Thoughts about Listening
By offering hospitality (respect, nurture, listening) to the other person, I might learn something useful for my life. Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7
I envision God as a listening God. Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19
Troubles bring us experience, and experience brings us hope. Romans 5:1-8
Listen first, and then tell what comes out of your own story. Matthew 9:35-10:8
Bible Reading Group Homework
1. Tell of a time in your life when you were told to be quiet, or intimidated away from using your voice and words.
2. Read or listen to Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7. Find the references to laughter and see if there are other mentions of laughter in the Bible. Discuss what causes human laughter and discover several different tones of voice for the conversation here. Make one of them sound like the Lord is asking Sarah to use her voice and words in testimony.
3. Read or listen to Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19. Name and describe the first thing mentioned in this Psalm that the Lord does or has done. Discuss what is the natural human response to this action by the Lord.
4. Read or listen to Romans 5:1-8. Summarize or tell in your own words the gist of Paul’s statement, especially verses 1-6. Discover the Trinity in this reading and describe the work of each.
5. Read or listen to Matthew 9:35-10:8. Jesus did it, saw the great need for more of it, and empowered and authorized his disciples to do much more of it. Imagine and describe the effects of what Jesus did and called the twelve to do. What did Jesus preach and what were the disciples to preach? Describe this in your own words, and consider what it would take for you to tell all your friends about this.
